    I am so sure Tonya Harding could have played her in a move about Sonja Henie back in her skating days. They were both, VERY powerful skaters & jumpers!!! Even Tonya looked like her too! God if only. Would had been a great movie.

      Dorothy Hamill or Tara Lipinski would have been better choices. Hamill essentially did Sonja's routines and even topped her scratch spin, (a near impossible feat,) and Lipinski looked closer to her.

      I think there were better skaters just Google Cecilia Colledge, she invented the layback spin, and the camel spin as well as being the first female skater to do a double jump. There was also another beautiful skater named Belita Turner, to me at least, when I watch Sonja like here, and then watch a video of Belita there is just no comparison. I think Belita’s skating skills were far more graceful and beautiful than Sonja’s even though she never got the acclaim, or notoriety Sonja did. Anyway, that is just how I feel sorry if it offends anyone.

      Yes, but so were USA and Soviet before they were attacked, no repercussions afterwards because they won. The nazi machine was helped by american oil and money from grandfather Bush [who might'we been a german immigrant altogether]. Hitler even paraded on TIME magazine some years prior, but few could foresee the immense atrocities. Stalin and Mao was worse and hunted jews [USSR], gays and minorities, but it is not as politically correct to portray.

    @hannahsteele6491 10 лет назад

    I can't help but wonder what would happen if this same crowd saw someone like Mao Asada or Yuna Kim skate? The crowd was excited when she did a loop single jump and a waltz jump.But how would they react to an olympic skater who does the single jump,but as a triple?Or when they see Mao Asadas triple axel? Also the spins where not as hard and Sonja wasn't as flexible as Julia Lipinskia,Sonja didn't have the artistic talent of Yuna kim.But the crowd clearly loves her! I can't imagine what the crowd would do if they watched any of those skaters.

    • @jkokich
      @jkokich 7 лет назад

      hannah steele It is surprising what passed for greatness back then. Yes, Henie was state of the art, and a world and Olympic champion, but it begs the question, what were the losers like? Aside from her spins, there was no great technique. I find the same thing in ballet (I teach classical ballet). They trained for years back then, as today, but you could teach/learn what they did in a very short period of time. What did they spend their training time doing? Compulsory figures were difficult and strictly judged, but the free skating was, well, not very difficult.

      If Henie had been born 90 years later, she would no doubt be doing triple axels today. Comparing her flexibility and artistic talent to skaters of another era, is absurd. Just as comparing Johnny Unitas to Tom Brady is absurd.

    A clever skater, but she had none of the style and grace of Belita. Her success was mainly due to the publicity generated by these films - we don't know now who else was skating at that time.

    • @my2cents2u
      @my2cents2u 7 лет назад

      Actually, her success was due to her amazing accomplishments as a figure skater, not to her films.The best Belita did was place 16th in the 1936 Olympics. Henie won gold in 1928, 1932 and 1936. She won *10* World Championships between 1927 and 1936, the first at age 14! She won numerous Norwegian and European competitions. To this day Henie is one of the most successful and admired figure skaters in history. You should look her up. There really is no comparison between the two of them.

      Hitler was Time Magazine's "Man of the Year" in 1938. Josef Stalin was their "Man of the Year" in 1939 and again in 1942. Public press and opinion can be fickle, and "official public opinion" can be *extremely* fickle, especially based upon what information has come to light and at what point. Who is to say that opinions regarding these matters won't change again, especially if more information is yet to come to light? (Edited to change erroneously supplied dates.)

    @calexander007 And you sound like an arrogant old timer who don't and won't accept progress as it happens before your very eyes. And it's not only with skating your generation is this way. When you have skaters like a Yuna Kim or Mao Asada. A Sasha Cohen or a Mirai Nagasu who are routinely doing triple jumps and neck breaking spends in very complicated positions, then you have to laugh at how people applauded the simplicity of how Sonja Henie skated. Even she would be in awe!!
